Pænitentia

Lyrics
Always I’ve known
You’ll have to go
Down to
the still waters of Eternity
Eternal snow
Please don’t go
Down to
the still waters of Eternity
Please help me stop
No time to talk
About how
I’ve shed this blood remorsefully
I’ll never go
To heaven now
I’ll never know
the still waters of Eternity
I’ll never understand (A hell to behold)
Forty times, it wasn’t planned (Death eats life’s gold)
I can’t make demands (Your being turned cold)
From the monster I am (Why can’t I remold?)
I weep for you
And all the others
I breathe for truth
Cause I am bothered
I’m overdue
You were smothered
And I am through
Take no lovers
Angels cheer for the day I meet my end
I no longer want to pretend
I carry something inside I can’t comprehend
This monster needs to make amends
I’ll never understand (A hell to behold)
Forty times, it wasn’t planned (Death eats life’s gold)
I can’t make demands (Your being turned cold)
From the monster I am (Why can’t I remold?)
About
Pænitentia represents a big change. It’s the first song released after Opus Nihil, and it’s the song where lots of the core songwriting infrastructure was changed, at least in terms of sample libraries for orchestration.
Pænitentia is about the serial killer known as the Weepy Voiced Killer. This name came about after a pattern emerged where, after having murdered someone, he’d call the police and report it with a “weeping voice”, as though he felt remorseful.
