Lyrics
You’ve gone adrift
I bring a gift
Tonight
I’ll bring you Heaven
My love
I won’t let go
Tonight
You’ll be forgiven
I will lead you
Through the gates
This Colt .22
Is God’s embrace
Our last supper
Your last day on Earth
Pick you up from the gutter
Give you some self worth
Have some pride for just one day
You will bleed for me
Nothing keeps my love at bay
As you die for me
The heaven you turned away
Flows through me
The trumpet sounds today
In your memory
There’s something pure in your tears
Tonight
I’ll bring you Heaven
I’ll always keep you dear
Tonight
You’ll be forgiven
You’ve gone adrift
I bring a gift
Tonight
I’ll bring you Heaven
My love
I won’t let go
Tonight
You’ll be forgiven
I will lead you
Through the gates
This Colt .22
Is God’s embrace
Our last supper
Your last day on Earth
Pick you up from the gutter
Give you some self worth
About
We felt like doing something for Easter, and there’s nothing more Easter than combining the biblical tale of the Last Supper and Jesus dying for our sins, with the story of someone who, in a moment of religious psychosis, killed their entire family so “secure them a place in heaven”.
Writing this song was a hectic affair, as we realised we only had a week to write, record, and produce the song. This ended up with us only agreeing on some basic things: Tempo and tonal centre. The result is a band arrangement swerving in and out of black metal and more rhythmic “djent”-like parts, while the orchestra plays a polka, with one of the prominent melodies being a minor key version of Mary Magdalene’s aria from the Easter Oratorio, BWV 249, by Johann Sebastian Bach.
