Post Vitam

Lyrics

A peaceful end
To the light in which we depend
And we’re condemned
To lie and then pretend

I see the pain you carry as a chain
So feel the rain
And enter Heaven’s reign

I’ve been told to send those who suffer
To the Kingdom of the Lord

When you reach the other side
All your loved ones will cry
I promise, I really tried
From this world to the next I’m your guide

You’ll feel my hands of mercy
I’ll heal your pain
You are worthy
Chokehold on your jugular vein

You’ll be sent to Heaven
You’ll sleep forever
No sound will be deafened
By your blood pressure

Suffocation, cancer and grief
Head in the pillow, I will be brief
Pain isn’t chivarly, pain is a thief
Constant misery, surgery, stitchery

All of the pain they cannot heal
Diamorphie, it makes you kneel
The Kingdom of God opens through me
Arsenic, cyanide, and HIV

When you reach the other side
All your loved ones will cry
I promise, I really tried
From this world to the next I’m your guide

“After Life”

About

The first song written for Opus Nihil, before Opus Nihil was an actual idea. The concept for this song was built on the, sadly common, phenomenom of medical professionals, like nurses or doctors, using their positions as someone acting with weak and sick people to be murderes. Famous examples of this include Harold Shipman (1946 - 2004) or Arnfinn Nesset (1936 - ____).

The choral break after the second verse was originally planned to have a separate set of lyrics to be sung in parallell with the choir, but it Hanssen decided to forego that when he heard the choir by itself.
